Frequently Asked Questions

Do you test all of your itineraries yourself?

Yes! These are all trips we’ve taken. Occasionally, we’ll update accommodations or recommendations if we learn that the places we stayed or visited have changed.

Is the 10-Day Road Trip Itinerary to Glacier National Park, Yellowstone National Park, and Grand Teton National Park an out-and-back?

Our road trip itinerary is a circle. You start in Idaho, then go to Montana, then Wyoming and then back to Idaho. We did it that way so that we could pick up our rental car and return it to the same place since that is much less expensive than returning a car to a different location.

What time of year is the best time to go to Glacier National Park, Yellowstone National Park, and Grand Teton National Park?

We went in July. Dana is a teacher so we tend to go on our big trips in the summer when she is out of school. It was busy but it would be tough to go to Glacier earlier in the year because even in July, part Going to the Sun Road was closed because fo snow!

Do you have an itinerary similar to the 10-Day Road Trip Itinerary to Glacier National Park, Yellowstone National Park, and Grand Teton National Park that is a little bit slower that is 7 days and starts in one state and ends in another state while still seeing some of what you have on the 10 day trip?

We don't currently have an itinerary like that but you could slow down the 10-day itinerary by removing one of the states and adding extra nights at the locations you do plan to visit. I'd recommend removing Idaho and flying straight to Montana, then adding an extra couple of nights at Glacier and Yellowstone, then fly home from Wyoming rather than driving back to Idaho.

Is a road trip to Glacier National Park, Yellowstone National Park, and Grand Teton National Park fitting for kids?

Most of the activities on our itinerary either are kid-friendly or could be made to be. There may be some days that are a little more packed than you'd want with kiddos so you may need to adjust slightly but the physical activities (hiking, canoeing, biking, etc) would all be appropriate for older kids (or babies in backpacks) and the hotel accommodations are perfect for families. While we didn't have any kids with us on this trip, I have a little one myself now and can't wait to take him on national park trips.

Where should we fly for a road trip to Glacier National Park, Yellowstone National Park, and Grand Teton National Park?

We flew in and out of Boise, Idaho for a couple of reasons: 1) we traveled in 2021 when there was a shortage of rental cars and we found one in Boise, and 2) we considered a point-to-point trip, but it's more expensive to drop off a rental car at a different airport and the rental was already very expensive that year. It worked out really well, though, so we'd definitely recommend doing it that way.
